Braids & Code Summer Camp

Empowering Black Girls Through Culture, Creativity & Technology

Young Black girls braiding hair and coding together in a vibrant learning space

This summer, Circuit Canvas is launching a bold and innovative 4-week β€œBraids & Code” Camp in Edinburgh β€” designed for Black girls aged 8–17. Blending cultural heritage with future-ready digital skills, this programme creates a safe, inspiring space where girls can learn braiding, explore coding, build confidence, and connect with sisterhood.

✨ Why Braids & Code?

🧬 Braiding β†’ Culture, Creativity & Confidence

Hair braiding is more than a skill β€” it is identity, history, creativity, and empowerment. Across communities, braid camps have shown they can build confidence, self-expression, and even entrepreneurial skills for young girls.

πŸ’» Coding β†’ Problem-Solving, Innovation & Future Careers

Digital skills are critical for the future. Yet girls β€” especially Black girls β€” remain underrepresented in tech. Braids & Code bridges both worlds, using culture as a launchpad for technology.

When girls understand who they are, and what they can build β€” they become unstoppable.

πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ’» What Makes This Camp Unique?

This is not just a summer camp. It is a movement to redefine what learning looks like for Black girls.
